Every floor is chosen by what it has to survive
A floor is specified backwards — from the traffic, the spills and the cleaning regime, not from a catalogue. The systems below are what we would recommend before seeing the slab; the site visit is what confirms it, because the concrete underneath decides as much as the room above it does.
Showroom and dealership
A floor customers look at before they look at anything else, under bright light that shows every defect. Recommended: Metallic for the floor that sells the room, or polyaspartic over a solid base where the product on it is the thing to look at.
Commercial kitchen and food prep
Hot water, grease, dropped pans and a health inspection. Coving at the wall and a surface that cleans without holding anything in it. Recommended: Quartz, with silica where the floor is wet for most of a shift.
Brewery, taproom and bottling
Constant wash-down, caustic cleaners, sugar and acid on the same slab, and thermal shock from hot lines. Recommended: Quartz back of house, flake front of house where the room is part of the brand.
Gym and fitness studio
Dropped weights, rolling racks and rubber that marks anything soft. Impact takes the floor out long before wear does. Recommended: Flake for the texture and the chip it hides, solid colour for zoned areas.
Auto shop and service bay
Hot tyres, oil, brake fluid, jack stands and a floor that gets pressure-washed. Recommended: Flake under a polyaspartic top coat — the combination that survives hot-tyre pick-up, which is what lifts a cheap garage floor first.
Parking area, ramp and loading dock
Tight turns, point loads and standing water where the slope is wrong. Grip matters more here than appearance. Recommended: Silica on ramps and anywhere it gets wet, solid colour on the flat.
Veterinary clinic and kennel
Urine, disinfectant, claws and a floor that has to be sanitised daily without degrading. Recommended: Quartz, with silica in wash and run areas.
Medical, dental and laboratory
Seamless, chemically resistant, and cleanable into the corner rather than around it. Recommended: Quartz where the room gets wet, solid colour where it does not.
Salon, spa and studio
Chemicals that stain, water at the basins, and a room whose appearance is the business. Recommended: Metallic for the feature area, flake where the floor has to work harder than it looks.
Church, school and community hall
Chairs dragged twice a week, a hundred pairs of shoes at once, and a cleaning crew with limited time. Recommended: Flake for the wear and the hidden dirt, solid colour for large plain spans.
Locker room, laundry and wash bay
Wet feet, standing water and a drain that decides the slope. Slip resistance is the specification, not a feature. Recommended: Silica, or quartz where it has to be hygienic as well as grippy.
Stockroom, mezzanine and back of house
Large plain areas where nobody needs a decorative floor, but bare concrete dusts and stains. Recommended: Grind and seal, or solid colour where a sealed slab is not enough.
